This educational package is designed for anyone who wants to learn more about the Bukit Lawang area and the delicate ecosystem of Gunung Leuser National Park, including its unique flora and fauna, eco-farming techniques, and Indonesian culture.
We have gathered the best educational experiences available for you to enjoy over 4 days.
Day 1/2 – Flora and Fauna Journey
This journey allows you to venture deeper into the rainforest with greater opportunities to see wildlife such as orangutans, Thomas leaf monkeys, macaques, and many more. You will also stop to observe and learn about medicinal plants and interesting flora. Your experienced guide will explain the ecosystem and the history of the rehabilitation project. They will also talk about local community life (religion, education, economy) and the effects of logging and palm oil plantations on the forest. After a rewarding day of trekking, you will arrive at our campsite located near a small river. In the evening, you will be served local food prepared by our camp cook. The next day, you will have the opportunity to visit a beautiful waterfall before enjoying an exciting rafting trip back to your starting point.
Day 3 – Village Tour
Immerse yourself in local life with our guided village tour. We will travel by traditional becak (tuk-tuk) through the village and rice fields.
Visit a traditional brown sugar processing “factory,” where a local family still practices traditional methods of making palm sugar. Taste the final product a solid brown sugar cake known as Gula Merah.
Stop by a tofu factory and observe the soybean processing method.
Visit a palm oil plantation to gain a deeper understanding of palm oil production, its uses, and its environmental impact. See rubber tree plantations and learn how rubber is made.
Day 4 – Visit to Local Attractions
We will visit a local eco-farm for half a day to learn about ecological farming methods.
We will end the tour at one of the local natural highlights, the Landak River and Bat cave, where you will enjoy a traditional BBQ featuring fish, rice, chicken, and vegetables.
