ITINERARY THREE DAYS

Start Your Trek

If you truly want to immerse yourself in the jungle and increase your chances of seeing its incredible wildlife, then this three-day jungle trek is the perfect choice. Over the course of three days, you will have greater opportunities to spot Sumatran wildlife and fully experience life in the rainforest.

Your English-speaking guide will meet you at your hotel at 8:30 AM, and you will depart at 9:00 AM. Your adventure begins on the edge of Bukit Lawang, hiking uphill through plantations before entering Gunung Leuser National ParkDuring the first few hours, you will have a high chance of seeing semi-wild and wild orangutans. You will continue trekking through the rainforest, walking up and down hills and crossing small clear streams. After several hours, you will take a break while your guide prepares a plate of fresh fruit. Take this time to rehydrate, relax, and enjoy the natural sounds of the jungle.

As you venture deeper into the forest, your guide will introduce you to various plant species and explain more about the unique ecosystem of Gunung Leuser National Park.

Jungle Camp

At 3:30 PM, you will arrive at your riverside campsite, located beside a clear river — perfect for swimming and refreshing yourself after the hike.

In the evening, relax and enjoy a delicious local dinner prepared by our camp chef. You can spend the night learning traditional jungle games, singing songs, and sharing stories. The jungle at night offers a completely different experience, as new animal sounds come alive in the darkness. Your campsite is designed for comfort, with thick foam mattresses, mosquito nets, blankets, and bed sheets provided.

The next morning, you will wake up to sunlight shining through the trees and the sounds of birds calling. Around the campsite, you may spot hornbills, other tropical birds, monitor lizards, and butterflies.

Day 2

After breakfast with hot coffee or tea prepared by your chef, you will begin another 5–6 hours of trekking.

Today’s journey takes you deeper into the rainforest, offering even more opportunities to see wild orangutans, various species of gibbons, Great Argus pheasants, and other fascinating wildlife. You will spend another memorable night camping at a different location in the jungle.

Return to Bukit Lawang

On your final morning, you will explore the area around your campsite while enjoying hot coffee or tea and breakfast. There will be more opportunities to observe wildlife along the riverbanks.

After breakfast, continue your adventure with a trek deeper into the jungle to a beautiful hidden waterfall. Here you can swim in the cool, clear water, relax in the peaceful surroundings, and even try traditional face painting using natural clay and charcoal from the forest.

At 1:00 PM, you will return to the campsite for a well-deserved lunch.

Then at 3:00 PM, finish the day with an exciting rafting trip along the river back to Bukit Lawang.

After lunch, your adventure concludes with a refreshing and exciting rafting trip back to Bukit Lawang. Your guide and rafting captain will build a traditional raft using rubber tubes, navigating you along the Bohorok River. Keep an eye out for monkeys playing and drinking along the riverbanks as you float back to the village.

Animals You Can See – An Absolute Must!

Highly Recommended Adventure

A truly unforgettable experience. I highly praise Sumatra Orangutan Discovery for such an action-packed trekking adventure. From the moment we arrived at the airport in Indonesia, they helped arrange a very friendly and helpful driver to take us to Bukit Lawang—which turned out to be a very enjoyable journey. We then began our three-day trek through the most beautiful jungle; it was truly special trekking with them.

They continuously encourage and promote ethical trekking throughout the entire time spent in the jungle. One highlight was the use of eco-friendly leaf plates to serve the most DELICIOUS meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They also strongly emphasized ensuring that no food or waste was left behind in the forest. We were truly spoiled with excellent cooking and comfortable sleeping arrangements. The tents were clean and the bedding was cozy (honestly, I never expected it to feel this “luxurious” on a jungle trip). After each day of trekking, we could relax comfortably and recharge for the following days.

Our guides were absolutely phenomenal. Not only did they help us navigate some challenging and technical terrain, but they were also incredibly supportive. With their deep passion and love for the jungle, Tyson and Laddi shared fascinating knowledge about the trees, insects, and wildlife species inhabiting the lush green forest. It was truly a rewarding journey thanks to our two guides, who led us through the dense jungle to experience unforgettable moments. They not only had great knowledge of and respect for the forest, but they were also highly entertaining, with a wonderful sense of humor.

Seeing Sumatran orangutan, Thomas's leaf monkey, hornbills, and cicadas was a major highlight for me.

If you are looking for a balanced, enjoyable, and unforgettable trekking experience, I would HIGHLY recommend them. I will definitely be back and look forward to doing the seven-day trek with Sumatra Orangutan Discovery.

Professional from start to finish, and very reasonably priced.
