ITINERARY TWO DAYS
The two-day trekking option is the most popular choice. This trek allows you to experience the jungle and enjoy one night of camping in Gunung Leuser National Park.
Start of the Trek
your experienced guide will meet you at your hotel at 8:30 AM to brief you about your journey, and you will depart at 9:00 AM.
Your trek will begin right on the edge of Bukit Lawang as you hike uphill through plantations and eventually enter the rainforest.
During the first few hours, you will have a very high chance of seeing semi-wild and wild orangutans.
You will continue trekking through the rainforest, walking up and down hills. Along the way, you will pass small clear streams where you may spot other wildlife such as monitor lizards and fish.
After several hours of hiking, you will stop and your guide will prepare a plate of fresh fruit for you. Take this opportunity to rehydrate and relax while listening to the sounds of crickets and black gibbons calling in the forest.
You will then continue deeper into the jungle, where your guide can show you various plant species and medicinal plants. You will also learn more about the ecosystem of Gunung Leuser National Park.
At 3:30 PM, you will arrive at your campsite located near a clear river, perfect for swimming and refreshing yourself.
Jungle Camp
In the evening, you can relax and enjoy a feast of local food prepared by our camp chef. We cater for vegans and vegetarians.
You can spend the evening learning traditional jungle games and hearing local legends.
Nighttime offers a completely different jungle experience, with many new animal sounds coming to life. Your campsite is designed to be comfortable, with thick foam mattresses provided, along with mosquito nets, blankets, pillows, and bed sheets.
Return to Bukit Lawang
The next morning, you will wake up to sunshine filtering through the trees and the sound of birds calling. The campsite area offers the chance to see hornbills and other birds, as well as monitor lizards and butterflies.
Your chef will prepare hot coffee or tea for breakfast. After breakfast, continue your adventure with a trek deeper into the jungle to a beautiful hidden waterfall. Here you can swim in the cool, clear water, relax in the peaceful surroundings, and even try traditional jungle face painting using natural clay and charcoal from the forest.
At 1:00 PM, you will return to the campsite for a well-deserved lunch. Then at 3:00 PM, finish the day with an exciting rafting trip along the river back to Bukit Lawang.

Outstanding
Even before I arrived in the country, I received endless assistance from the owner via email regarding transport, accommodation, and more. The orangutan discovery tour was incredible, and the guide was very flexible about when I wanted to stop and what I wanted to do.
The journey was an amazing experience through dense, untouched jungle (seeing many orangutans), with a well-timed stop for fresh fruit snacks and a delicious lunch before finishing with a rafting trip down the river back to the town center (less than a 5-minute walk from most guesthouses/hostels).
I not only received an unbeatable tour, but I also had someone I could contact whenever needed for the rest of my time in Sumatra.
Highly recommended.
